BACKGROUND:
This scholarship was established in loving memory of Langston University Alumna, Deborah Nunley Livings, Class of 1970. Deborah was born & raised in Oklahoma City, where she attended Douglass High School. While at LU, she majored in Mathematics Education and was initiated into Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Deborah had a successful career teaching middle school, high school, & college Math for the Davenport, Iowa Community Schools. She advanced her teaching skills by attaining her Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Iowa and maintaining an active membership with the National Alliance of Black School Educators (NABSE). Deborah retired after 35 years and was continually recognized as a Black Educator Trailblazer in Iowa.
After Deborah passed away in September 2021, her family, husband Paul and daughters Elaina and Eneetra, wanted to establish Deborah’s legacy at Langston due to her love and dedication for education and math.
