Holds are restrictions placed on student accounts when a specific action is required from students to allow enrollment at LU or release of official academic documents such as transcripts and diplomas to name a few. The information below will assist you with understanding holds and how to address them.

Admissions Document Required
This hold is placed on a student’s account by the Office of Admissions. The hold prevents registration. To discuss the matter with the Office of Admissions.

Bad Debt
The Bad Debt hold is placed onto students accounts that have been processed as a Bad Debt-Balance due. These accounts have had no activity for an extended amount of time and most have been returned to the university deemed as uncollectable. This hold prevents registration. This hold can only be released once the balance has been paid in full.

Collection Agency Placement
This hold is placed on students accounts whose debt has been transferred to a collection agency. This hold prevents  registering for classes.

Financial Hold Business Office
This hold is a manual hold placed on each account with a returned payment and can only be lifted once the returned payment has been satisfied. When placing the hold, the student is notified of the returned check, the returned check fee and that a financial hold has been placed on their account. (Click to view an example).

A financial hold can prevent them from enrolling in future semesters, changing their current schedule, or receiving their diploma. The hold can only be released once the returned check and fee have been rectified.
