The Langston Department of Public Health equips students pursuing their undergraduate degree in this field with the knowledge and skills needed to become leaders in the health profession, and to improve the health of people and communities. Our students explore the public health care system in the U.S. and abroad, as well as emerging public health concerns and burgeoning environmental threats.

Mission

The Public Health program at Langston University works to prepare graduates who can create and advance healthy communities in the diverse and dynamic field. The field challenges its professionals to confront complex health issues using multifaceted approaches while continuing to be an exciting and growing field of study.

Objectives

The Public Health program will prepare scholarly healthcare professionals who participate as a member of the interdisciplinary health care team and provide leadership to meet the complex healthcare issues in protecting and promoting the public’s health. Specifically, the Bachelor of Science in Public Health program strives to meet the emerging challenges of healthcare by: 1. Preparing graduates to practice successfully in diverse public health and social service settings. 2. Establishing a solid foundation for advanced study in public health. 3. Providing an environment conducive to student learning and professional development. 4. Engaging in service activities that strengthen the capacity to advance and improve population health. 5. Conducting basic and applied research that contributes to the identification, management, and resolution of public health problems.

Bachelor of Science in Public Health

This program awards a Bachelor of Science in Public Health. It is organized around the five core disciplines of public health: biostatistics, epidemiology, environmental health sciences, social and behavioral sciences, and health administration and policy.
