Mrs. Sonya Moore-Davis serves as Director of The Early Childhood Laboratory located in Breaux Hall. Mrs. Davis entered the childcare industry in 1981 as a preschool teacher while attending high school. Her continued work and dedication in the field led to childcare management in 1987 in Edmond, Oklahoma. Mrs. Davis’s management and teaching career extends from corporate, employer-sponsored to non-profit childcare centers. She previously supervised eight centers as a Director, in addition to a nine multi-site child care district in the Wichita/Topeka, Kansas region as Corporate Regional Director. Under her direction, teaching staff and management teams achieved accreditation and The Pete’s Elite Center Award multiple times for excellence in early childcare education and exceeding profit goals.

Mrs. Davis was born and raised in Guthrie, Oklahoma. She completed her B.S. degree in English Education at the University of Central Oklahoma, a Director Certification of Mastery and Certification of Completion from Rose State College. She is a trained parenting professional with The Incredible Years Parenting Research Series under Dr. Teresa Baird with Tinker Air Force Base. Mrs. Davis currently maintains the Platinum Level Director’s Credential with the Center for Early Childhood Professionals. She is currently serving on The Central Oklahoma Fetal and Infant Mortality Review Team.

Prior to her appointment at Langston University, Mrs. Davis has served in management positions with The Learning Care Group formerly La Petite Academy, Knowledge Universe (KinderCare), Latchkey of OKC, United Methodist & Disciples Of Christ private church based early care and kindergarten programs. Her mission in working with children and their families in order to nurture and support their unique educational growth, while facilitating the basic joy of childhood for each parent and child.
